The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has recorded another significant success in its efforts to enhance peace and security in Taraba State.
In a statement, the brigade announced the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram member in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, was said to have been apprehended following actionable intelligence.
According to the statement from the troops, preliminary interrogations revealed that Grema was part of a Boko Haram syndicate deployed to Taraba State to engage in kidnappings for ransom.
The funds were intended to support the group’s operations and establish a new base in the region. Grema further disclosed that the syndicate was harboring members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), who had been sent from the Timbuktu Triangle to carry out additional criminal activities in the state.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, lauded the operation’s success and reiterated the army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the lives of citizens in Taraba State and beyond. He assured the public of continued military efforts to stabilize the region.
The general also urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
