The Nigeria Police Force has reassured citizens of sustained security vigilance across the country following rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global impact.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the Force remains fully committed to protecting lives, property, and maintaining national peace. He emphasized that Nigeria’s internal security situation remains stable and firmly under control.

In a directive issued to Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the acting IGP ordered heightened surveillance and intelligence gathering nationwide, with particular focus on the North West, North East, and North Central zones.

The directive includes strengthening collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, increasing visible policing around worship centres and public spaces, and taking swift action against any individuals or groups attempting to exploit global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tension.

The police leadership stressed that Nigeria would not become a theatre for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country would be met with the full weight of the law.

IGP Disu also urged community leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. He encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

In a statement, issued on March 1, 2026, from Force Headquarters in Abuja and signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to safeguard national security at all times.
