The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for the adoption of proactive cybersecurity strategies, stronger partnerships, and enhanced digital capabilities to tackle the growing threats posed by cybercrime and emerging technologies.

The IGP’s message was delivered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), AIG Akaninyene Ezima, who represented him at the 2nd Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy held in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the IGP, Ezima said rapid technological advancements continue to transform global security, economic development, and international relations while creating new opportunities for cybercriminals and other malicious actors. He stressed that the evolving digital threat landscape requires stronger collaboration among security agencies, policymakers, diplomatic institutions, and other stakeholders to safeguard Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

According to him, the Nigeria Police Force recognises that effectively addressing emerging cyber threats requires anticipatory intelligence, resilient digital infrastructure, continuous capacity development, and sustained collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, and international partners.

He described the seminar as an important platform for knowledge sharing, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and promoting global best practices in cybersecurity and digital diplomacy.

Ezima reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating cybercrime through intelligence-led operations, capacity building, strategic partnerships, and sustained public awareness campaigns aimed at protecting citizens, critical national infrastructure, and Nigeria’s digital economy.

He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the seminar by developing practical policies and collaborative initiatives that would strengthen the country’s cyber resilience and contribute to a safer digital environment.

The police chief also commended the organisers for convening the seminar and expressed confidence that the discussions would advance Nigeria’s national security and digital diplomacy objectives.

The seminar brought together stakeholders from the security, diplomatic, and technology sectors to deliberate on emerging issues in artificial intelligence, cyber statecraft, and digital diplomacy in support of Nigeria’s national security and foreign policy goals.
