Benue State governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and fostering development across the state.

Speaking at the one-year memorial of the late Tor Sankera, His Royal Highness Abu King Shuluwa, held at the Catholic Youth Center in Makurdi, the governor described the late traditional ruler as a champion of social justice and a promoter of peace.

He assured that his government remains dedicated to upholding the monarch’s vision of security and stability, not only in Sankera but throughout Benue State.

The Governor commended the ongoing peace-building efforts led by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala, Most Rev. Isaac Dugu, and the Paramount Ruler of the Tiv Nation,  Proffessor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse.

He urged citizens to contribute to the state’s development and extended condolences to the late Tor Sankera’s family, calling for continued support for his loved ones.

Emphasizing the importance of education, Alia urged parents to prioritize their children’s schooling.

He condemned the growing issue of child hawking during school hours, warning that offenders could face legal repercussions, including imprisonment.

During the homily, Reverend Father Remigius Ihyula encouraged the congregation to trust in God rather than in human authority, which he described as fleeting. He urged the faithful to remain steadfast in prayer.
