Gombe State has been selected as one of only three Nigerian states to participate in the Sommet de l’Élevage (World Livestock Summit), slated for October 5–11, 2025, in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
The announcement, made by the National Coordination Office of the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, highlights national and international recognition of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s sweeping reforms in the livestock sector.
In an official communication to the state government, the L-PRES National Coordination Office commended Governor Yahaya for his “visionary leadership and unwavering commitment” to transforming livestock production in Gombe. The state’s exemplary implementation of the L-PRES project, backed by functional steering and technical committees, was cited as a key reason for its selection.
According to National Project Coordinator Malam Sanusi Abubakar, Gombe’s performance under the L-PRES initiative has made it a model for livestock sector reform in Nigeria.
At the summit, Gombe’s delegation will join national and international stakeholders—including investors, policymakers, and livestock experts—to engage on innovations, trade, and investment opportunities in the global livestock ecosystem. The event, regarded as Europe’s largest livestock gathering, will focus on sustainability, value chain development, and technological advancement in the sector.
Gombe’s participation comes at a time of rapid agricultural and livestock development in the state. Through strategic initiatives like the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone—which houses a modern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, leather processing facilities, and more—the state is positioning itself as a regional hub for agribusiness in Nigeria and West Africa.
Officials say the summit will provide an opportunity to deepen international partnerships and adopt global best practices that can further boost livestock productivity, economic resilience, and inclusive growth across the state.
