Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has signed the N617.95 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, giving legal backing to the implementation of the state’s “Budget of Consolidation.”
The signing ceremony was held on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gombe, shortly after the presentation of the approved budget by the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, alongside other lawmakers.
Details of the budget show that N189 billion, representing 21.6 per cent of the total expenditure, is allocated to recurrent spending, while N428.5 billion, or 69.4 per cent, is devoted to capital projects, reflecting the administration’s strong focus on infrastructure, service delivery and long-term economic growth.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya had earlier submitted a N535.69 billion budget estimate to the House of Assembly. Following legislative scrutiny and review, the lawmakers approved an upward adjustment of over N82 billion, bringing the total budget size to N617.95 billion.
One of the major features of the 2026 budget is the provision of N12 billion for the Northern Regional Security Fund, equivalent to a N1 billion monthly contribution. The allocation aligns with resolutions of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and places Gombe State among the leading contributors to collective regional efforts to tackle insecurity.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Inuwa Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, completing ongoing legacy projects and delivering people-centred development across both urban and rural areas of the state.
He said the 2026 budget gives priority to critical sectors including health, education, social investment, environmental protection and mineral resources development, while also making special provision for the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
The governor described the budget as realistic and responsible, adding that no sector of the state’s economy has been neglected under his leadership. He commended the House of Assembly for conducting what he termed a thorough and people-oriented review of the estimates and assured that the state would sustain its record of fiscal discipline, noting that budget implementation has consistently exceeded 70 per cent.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also praised the lawmakers for their unity and cooperation throughout the budget process, describing the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government as cordial and productive.
He further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for continued support to Gombe State through various development programmes, while appealing for increased interventions in the year ahead.
Earlier, Speaker Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo said the House received the 2026 budget proposal on November 13, 2025, and subjected it to rigorous scrutiny, including an extended session of the Appropriation Committee held in Calabar, Cross River State.
According to him, the review process resulted in modest upward adjustments aimed at strengthening the budget in the overall interest of the people of Gombe State.
The Speaker commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the administration’s development initiatives, particularly in the health and education sectors, noting that a recent health summit organised by the state government attracted experts from across the world who acknowledged the state’s steady progress in healthcare delivery.
Luggerewo added that the Assembly acted in good faith and in the public interest, while also thanking the governor for promoting a healthy working relationship among the arms of government and for providing logistics that have enhanced legislative efficiency.
