Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies operating in the state.

Fubara made the commitment at the Government House, Port Harcourt, when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Everest Okoro, paid him a courtesy visit.

The governor stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the state government and the Nigerian Army to safeguard critical national infrastructure and maintain peace across Rivers State.

He described security as a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of all stakeholders, noting that effective partnership with the military remained essential to protecting strategic assets in the state.

Fubara also commended the Nigerian Army for choosing Rivers State as the host of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), describing the event as a landmark occasion for the military.

According to him, the decision to host the celebration in Rivers State demonstrated the peace, stability and hospitality prevailing in the region.

Earlier, Major General Okoro expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the hospitality and support extended to the Nigerian Army during NADCEL 2026.

The GOC described Rivers State as strategically important to the Niger Delta and the Nigerian economy, stressing that the Armed Forces considered the state a critical partner in achieving national security objectives.

Okoro said the familiarisation visit was aimed at further strengthening the existing relationship between the 6 Division and the Rivers State Government.

He noted that the peace and stability enjoyed in the state were important drivers of socio-economic development and investment.

The GOC further reaffirmed the commitment of the 6 Division to upholding the core values, professionalism and constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Army.

He also stressed the importance of continued dedication and sacrifice by personnel in securing the state and the nation, while ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law.
