Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as a vital instrument for promoting national unity and integration among young Nigerians.
Fintiri stated this on Friday, October 2, 2026, while addressing 1,428 registered corps members at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, said the NYSC programme brings together youths from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to understand and appreciate Nigeria’s diversity.
He said the experience also enables corps members to build lasting relationships and strengthen their sense of national consciousness.
Fintiri urged the corps members to uphold patriotism, discipline, tolerance, hard work, selflessness and service to humanity throughout their one-year national service.
“As you take the Oath of Allegiance today, I urge you to embrace the noble values of patriotism, discipline, tolerance, hard work, selflessness and service to humanity,” he said.
The governor said the deployment of corps members outside their states of origin was a deliberate policy designed to promote mutual understanding, tolerance and national integration among Nigerians.
He noted that although the one-year service period might appear short, the contributions of corps members could have far-reaching and lasting effects on their host communities.
“Your one-year service may appear short, but the impact you make during this period can be far-reaching and, in some cases, last for generations,” Fintiri said.
He congratulated the corps members on their successful mobilisation, describing them as a community of young Nigerians united by service, sacrifice and commitment to national development.
Earlier, the Adamawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, commended the state government for its continued support for the scheme.
Chinedu particularly appreciated the government’s financial assistance for feeding corps members and its efforts to provide a conducive environment at the orientation camp.
She also acknowledged the government’s commitment to the ongoing construction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, adding that corps members remained committed to contributing meaningfully to the development of Adamawa State.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, Barrister Wali Yakubu, commended the Fintiri administration for maintaining a peaceful environment for corps members serving in the state.
Yakubu urged the corps members to respect the Constitution and other laws of the country, interact positively with one another and promote national unity throughout their service year.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to the corps members by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.
