The Sokoto State Police Command says its operatives have foiled an attack by armed bandits on Tsabre Village in Isa Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, when a large number of armed bandits invaded the community and began shooting sporadically.
The police said the gunfire was intended to create panic among residents and facilitate the attackers’ operation.
It added that upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Isa immediately mobilised tactical teams, including operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit, to the area.
The operatives reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing the attackers to retreat into a nearby forest.
The command said the tactical teams maintained superior firepower and strategic positioning during the encounter, while the bandits reportedly fled with some casualties.
Following the attackers’ withdrawal, the police said its operatives conducted a thorough search of the surrounding bushes.
The search led to the recovery of two rocket launchers, two empty AK-47 magazines and a Techno keypad mobile phone without a battery.
Other items recovered included a torchlight, an Army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals and a rain jacket.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operation for what he described as their swift response and gallantry.
Shaffa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Sokoto State.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the police.
The commissioner specifically appealed to members of the public to report anyone with suspected gunshot wounds seeking medical treatment to the nearest police station.
