With the festive season drawing near, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a strong warning to residents against the sale and use of firecrackers, knockout explosives, and other unauthorized pyrotechnics.
The advisory, released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, says the directive follows growing concerns over the circulation of such items across the Territory.
According to the Command, firecrackers pose significant safety risks, including injuries, fire outbreaks, and public panic. Security officials also noted that the explosive sounds can provide cover for criminal activities.
The Command emphasized that the indiscriminate use of fireworks disrupts public peace and threatens vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and people with health challenges.
Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has directed operatives across the FCT to enforce the ban strictly, warning that anyone found selling or using firecrackers will be arrested and prosecuted.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report violators to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
