The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned the sum of N42.5 million to a 70 old widow and retiree, Mrs Margret Taye Odofin, who was allegedly defrauded by her former bank’s investment officer, Mrs. Kehinde O. Yusuf.
The recovered funds were presented to Odofin in a bank draft at the EFCC Kaduna Zonal directorate on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
The handover was conducted by the Acting Director, Bawa Kaltungo, who represented the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
According to the EFCC, Odofin had petitioned the Commission in December 2024, alleging that Yusuf who served as her account and investment officer at a new-generation bank had deceived her into investing in fake Ponzi schemes between November and December 2020.
Yusuf allegedly promised her a quarterly return of N.7 million, but instead siphoned N47 million from her account, transferring the funds into multiple bank accounts without authorization.
Following the fraudulent transactions, Yusuf fled to the United Kingdom, severing all contact with the victim. Despite her escape, EFCC investigators successfully traced and recovered a substantial portion of the stolen funds.
An emotional Mrs. Odofin expressed deep gratitude to the EFCC and its leadership, praising their diligence and commitment to justice.
“I cannot believe this. When Mrs. Yusuf absconded to the UK, we were advised there to report the matter to the EFCC since the crime was committed in Nigeria,” she said.
“Today, God has used the Commission to wipe away my tears. I am grateful to Mr. Ola Olukoyede and the EFCC team for their sincerity and dedication.”
In his remarks, Kaltungo reaffirmed the EFCC’s determination to protect citizens from financial fraud and ensure justice for victims.
“We appreciate your trust in the Commission. This recovery demonstrates our professionalism and capacity to deliver justice within our mandate,” he said.
The EFCC continues to intensify its efforts to track down financial criminals and recover stolen assets for victims across the country.
