Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commended contractors delivering quality work across Edo South Senatorial District, while issuing a stern warning to those lagging behind to improve or risk losing their contracts.
The governor made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects, aimed at ensuring timely delivery and value for public funds.
Speaking at the tour, Okpebholo said the inspections were necessary to distinguish serious contractors from those failing to meet agreed standards and timelines.
“We visited several sites today, including Church Road and Upper Ekenwan Road. We were not satisfied with the contractor at Church Road. We have advised them to meet the specifications, and if there is no improvement by our next visit, the contract will be revoked,” he warned.
He, however, expressed satisfaction with other projects, praising contractors who demonstrated professionalism and commitment.
“I am very happy with the work at Ogheghe Road and the Sapele Road projects. The contractors handling these sites are doing an excellent job,” he added.
Okpebholo stressed that his administration would not tolerate unnecessary delays, especially with the rainy season approaching, noting that road infrastructure remains a top priority.
“We will continue monitoring these projects closely, even on weekends. With the rainy season almost here, there is no time to waste,” he said.
Linking the projects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, the governor noted that road construction is a visible way to restore public confidence in governance.
“When people see these roads, they know we are delivering on our promises and contributing to the President’s Renewed Hope agenda,” he said.
The projects inspected include the 1.4-kilometre Charismatic (Church) Road off Ekhenwa Road by Place of Peace Investment Limited; Old Sapele Road linking Agip, Ohogbohi, and Ogheghe communities, executed by Rawtech Nigeria Limited; Ogheghe Road off Sapele Road by BRASS Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited; and the Sapele Road Bypass.
Residents of the benefiting communities turned out in large numbers to witness the inspections and praised the governor for the visible and impactful development.
