Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will prosecute several recently impeached Local Government chairmen over allegations of financial misconduct involving more than N95 billion.

The revelation came as Governor Okpebholo received the final report from the Administrative Panel of Enquiry, which was established onon December 18,2024, to investigate financial dealings in all the 18 local government councils of the state, between September 4,2023 and November 2024.

According to the report, not only were the impeached council chairmen found culpable, but also former governor Godwin Obasaki, key members of the favtional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other political figures.

Governor Okpebholo praised the panel’s professionalism, emphasizing that the days of financial recklessness and lack of transparency in public office were over.

He urged Nigerians to demand accountability from elected officials, stating that this was the only way to fight corruption and ensure sustainable development.

“I carefully listened to the findings, and the truth is that the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki betrayed the trust of Edo people. “They looted public funds for personal gain, but we are here to change the narrative and ensure justice is served.” Okpebholo stated

Vowing immediate action, Okpebholo confirmed that his administration would  formally petition the EFCC for the prosecution of those implicated in the scandal.

The governor assured citizens that his administration remains committed to good governance, transparency, and the protection of public resources.
