Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on landlords and real estate firms to lower rental prices in a bid to ease the financial strain on residents, particularly civil servants.
Speaking at the 13th anniversary celebration of Property World Africa Network (PWAN) in Asaba, the governor described the current rental costs as unsustainable.
He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to make housing more affordable for the people of Delta State.
His appeal comes amid growing concerns over rising rent prices, which have sparked complaints from tenants and advocacy by civil society groups calling for government intervention.
While some landlords may heed the governor’s request, others argue that high property development costs make rent reductions difficult. This has led to renewed discussions on whether the government should enforce rent control policies to regulate the housing market.
