In a major breakthrough for communal harmony, the long-standing tensions between the Bachama and Chobo communities have taken a decisive turn toward peace as both groups signed a historic Peace Accord at the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola.
The peace agreement was formalized during a meeting presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, and attended by key security stakeholders.
Among those present were Lt Col. Eleje Abubakar, representing the Brigade Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola; Mr. Bartholomew Omoaka, fsi+, State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS); and Commandant Idris Dahiru Bande, State Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The representatives of both communities expressed a renewed commitment to dialogue, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. They emphasized that sustainable peace and development could only be achieved through collective effort and mutual understanding.
The Peace Accord, which contains six core provisions, outlines the following: cessation of hostilities security provisions, boundary and access agreement, resolution of past grievances,commitment to ongoing dialogue, among others.
The Adamawa State Police Command praised the leadership and members of both communities for their voluntary commitment to the peace process, describing it as a step toward a more secure and united future.
The Command also urged the general public to support the implementation of the peace accord and to report any actions that could undermine the fragile peace to the Police or appropriate authorities.
