Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized a suspected bandit during a precision operation in Taraba State, according to a statement released Sunday by Acting Brigade spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde.
The operation, conducted on May 3 near Gafar Village in Ussa Local Government Area, was based on credible intelligence and targeted a known transit route used by criminal elements involved in attacks and thefts across the region.
A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect. Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle believed to have been stolen from a civilian.
In a separate mission in Bali Local Government Area, troops disrupted the movement of suspected bandits advancing from Tongo and Garin Alkali in Adamawa State toward the Shana community.
The suspects were pursued into Yunkunssu Forest, where an exchange of gunfire forced them to flee. Recovered items included a locally fabricated revolver, an AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“These successful operations underscore the commitment of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS to ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens in Taraba State,” Captain Olubodunde stated.
He also called on residents to support military efforts by providing timely and credible information to aid in the fight against criminal threats in the area.
