The Department of Army Transformation and Innovation (DATI), Army Headquarters, has organized an awareness lecture titled “From Trauma to Triumph: Building Combat-Ready Warriors in the Nigerian Army” at the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, NMS Zaria, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the event, held on Tuesday, was designed to strengthen the moral, mental, and psychological resilience of personnel, thereby enhancing the Nigerian Army’s overall combat readiness and operational effectiveness.
Representing the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General Olusegun Samson Abai, the Director of Lessons Learnt, Major General M.D. Danja, noted that the seminar was aimed at sustaining the resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit of Nigerian Army personnel and trainees.
He said the initiative aligns with the Army’s ongoing commitment to promoting leadership, professionalism, and combat preparedness across all formations and institutions.
Major General Danja encouraged participants to apply insights gained from the programme to both their personal and professional lives.
He also commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for his consistent support toward capacity-building initiatives that enhance the Army’s adaptability and responsiveness in operations.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of NMS, Brigadier General Owoicho Ejiga, described the seminar as a timely and strategic effort to reinforce the moral and psychological readiness of troops in today’s dynamic security environment.
He emphasized the Army’s continued focus on developing the moral component of its fighting force alongside its physical and conceptual capabilities.
The lecture featured three key presentations: “Effects of Drug/Substance Abuse on Nigerian Army Operational Efficiency” by Assistant Commander of Narcotics S. Muhammed of the NDLEA, Kaduna State Command; “Overcoming Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the Nigerian Army” by Lieutenant Colonel Susan Dibal (Rtd); and “Intensifying Warrior Ethos and Mental Toughness” by Major General Charles Ofoche (Rtd).
According to Captain Oni, the sessions explored the effects of substance abuse, the psychological toll of operational stress, and the importance of sustaining mental toughness and a strong warrior ethos.
Stating that, each presentation was followed by interactive discussions that allowed participants to share experiences and propose practical strategies for improving emotional resilience and professional conduct within the ranks.
