The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, has called on newly promoted senior officers to strengthen their professional competence as they prepare for higher responsibilities in service.

The charge was delivered on Friday during a decoration ceremony held in Jalingo, Taraba State, where the officers were formally adorned with their new ranks amid commendations and words of encouragement.

Addressing the gathering, Brigadier General Akaliro emphasized that promotion in the military is not merely a reward but a call to greater duty. He noted that increased rank comes with heightened expectations, urging the officers to continually develop their skills to meet the demands of leadership and operational effectiveness.

“Continuous professional development remains critical to effective service delivery and leadership,” he stated, underscoring the importance of discipline, dedication, and strategic capacity in advancing military objectives.

The brigade commander also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the promotion of officers within the brigade, describing the gesture as a morale booster for personnel.

In a message to officers who were not elevated, Akaliro urged resilience and commitment, assuring them that future opportunities for advancement would come with sustained hard work and focus.

He further acknowledged the vital role played by the families of the promoted officers, particularly their spouses, whose support and sacrifices he said contribute significantly to the success of military personnel. He encouraged them to continue offering prayers and encouragement as the officers assume greater responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya Mohammed expressed gratitude for the milestone, attributing their success to divine grace and institutional support.

He also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for the recognition and pledged that the beneficiaries would approach their duties with renewed dedication and professionalism.

The officers equally extended appreciation to Brigadier General Akaliro for his mentorship and leadership, which they described as instrumental in shaping their careers.

Among those decorated at the ceremony were Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya Mohammed, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Nasiru, Lieutenant Colonel Adeola Olaleye Adebayo, Lieutenant Colonel VS Aminu, and Wing Commander Domshak Titus Zakka. They were elevated from the ranks of Major and Squadron Leader to Lieutenant Colonel and Wing Commander, respectively.

The ceremony marks another step in strengthening leadership capacity within the brigade as it continues to carry out its operational mandate.
