The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned a recent attack on residents of Mbalom in Gwer-East Local Government Area, describing the incident as “heinous” and unacceptable.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the governor said the assault, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen, represents a serious threat to the peace and security of the state. He expressed deep sympathy to families affected by the violence and assured them of the government’s support during this period.
Alia raised concerns over what he described as a pattern of calculated and selective attacks in parts of Benue, warning that such acts of violence would not be allowed to persist. He reiterated his administration’s determination to confront and eliminate all forms of criminal activity endangering communities across the state.
The governor commended the Nigeria Police Force for their swift response, noting that security agencies have already begun efforts to track down those responsible. He urged them to intensify operations to prevent further attacks and ensure justice is served.
While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, Alia emphasized that his administration is strengthening the state’s security framework through improved intelligence gathering and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
He also called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, urging them to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
The Benue State Government, he said, remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue working toward restoring lasting peace and security across the state.
