Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has called on citizens across the state to unite in the face of mounting security challenges, as he presented his midterm report to a large gathering at the Township Stadium in Vandeikya Local Government Area on Sunday.
Addressing the people of this state, governor Alia expressed deep concern over continued attacks by armed herdsmen, describing the situation as an existential threat to Benue communities. He emphasized that political differences must be set aside in order to collectively safeguard the state’s future.
“We must stand together in the face of these threats. The time for partisanship is over; what we face is a threat to our very survival,” the Governor declared, leading a solemn minute of silence in honor of those killed in recent violence.
Governor Alia commended the Federal Government for deploying additional security forces and urged citizens to cooperate fully with security operatives to restore peace. He called on communities to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting efforts to protect lives and property.
Showcasing the achievements of his administration over the past two years, governor Alia noted substantial progress in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, ICT, infrastructure, transportation, and security. He asserted that the accomplishments within his tenure already surpass those of previous administrations spanning nearly a decade.
He also announced the availability of fertilizer stockpiled in warehouses for distribution to farmers ahead of the 2025 planting season, a move aimed at boosting food production across the state.
Others who delivered goodwill messages included Vandeikya Council Chairman Dennis Guda; KUDA Chairman Deacon Emmanuel Tor Yajir; Members representing Tiev and Kyan Constituencies, Dr. Matthew Damkor and Terna Shimawua; Ter Kunav, His Royal Highness Chief Nyiyongo Achiaku; and APC State Chairman Hon. Chief Benjamin Omale.
A major highlight of the event was the defection of over 1,000 individuals from various political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which added excitement to the rally that also featured musical performances.
