Akwa Ibom State Police Command,  has commenced the enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance compliance.

in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.

The operation, which began today, was personally supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, across Uyo and other parts of the state.

Accompanied by his team and members of the press, the commissioner took to the streets to personally monitor compliance, by ensuring that vehicle owners adhere to the mandatory insurance policy.

Several vehicles found without valid third-party insurance were impounded, while their owners received strict warnings against the use of fraudulent documents.

Azare, who also engaged with motorists and the public, stressed the importance of valid insurance coverage.

He warned that defaulters would face strict penalties, including vehicle impoundment, as part of efforts to enhance road safety and maintain law and order.

“The enforcement is not just about penalties but about safeguarding lives and ensuring that road users are adequately covered in case of accidents,” Azare stated.

He assured the public that the enforcement process would be conducted fairly and transparently, urging vehicle owners, transport unions, and stakeholders to support the initiative.

The enforcement drive, as announced by the commissioner, is set to continue across all 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
