Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has presented a proposed N1.854 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.”
Presenting the appropriation bill, Governor Fubara said the budget was designed to address prevailing economic challenges while laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth, improved public services and stronger state finances.
He explained that the fiscal proposal was developed following extensive public consultations and is aimed at enhancing economic resilience and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
According to the governor, the budget gives priority to critical sectors, including infrastructure, education and healthcare, while emphasizing prudent management of public resources.
Fubara also proposed a 50 per cent increase in overhead allocations for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance service delivery. He further pledged to settle outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retired civil servants.
Receiving the 2026 appropriation bill, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, assured the governor that lawmakers would subject the proposal to thorough legislative scrutiny and ensure its expeditious consideration.
