The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate murder cases in Shanga and Zuru Local Government Councils of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, the first incident occurred on December 31, 2024, at around 8:00 PM in Bakin Turu village, of Shanga council.
A 25-year-old man, identified as Yunusa Haruna, was said to have been apprehended for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death during a dispute.
The attack reportedly involved a sharp knife. Officers from the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded to the situation, leading to Yunusa’s arrest.
The second incident, according to the police, took place on January 8, 2025, in Jarkasa, Zuru council, stating that. Abubakar Umar, also 25, was arrested for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head during an argument, resulting in Bala’s death.
Umar was also accused of injuring Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, in the same altercation. Officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters acted swiftly to detain the suspect.
Reacting to the incidents, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police Bello Sani expressed deep concern over the rising cases of violence.
He urged residents to embrace peaceful methods of resolving disputes and to report grievances to appropriate authorities instead of resorting to violence.
The Commissioner was said to have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct thorough investigations into both cases.
