The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’ of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a large shipment of illicit drugs valued at over N48.5 million in Kaduna State.
The seizure followed a targeted operation based on credible intelligence, during which Customs operatives stopped a vehicle along the Zaria Flyover on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.
During the search, officers discovered nine sacks containing 185 compressed blocks of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp), weighing 89.6 kilograms. The illegal substance has a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦48,562,500.
A male suspect, Shamsu Nafi’u, who was driving the vehicle, was immediately arrested and taken into custody at the FOU Zone ‘B’ headquarters in Kaduna.
Following protocol, both the suspect and the seized items were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Nigeria Customs Service reiterated its commitment to working with other law enforcement agencies to curb the trafficking of illicit substances across the country.
