The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of Lance Corporal Ahmed Aminu, who is accused of involvement in the death of a phone repairer, Alkasim Ibrahim, in Mayo Belwa, Adamawa State, on July 4, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, July 5, Lieutenant Adebayo Samuel Adewumi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 23 Brigade in Yola, said the soldier had been taken into custody while a thorough investigation has commenced to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Nigerian Army acknowledges the reported incident with deep concern and wishes to inform the public that the said soldier has since been taken into custody.
A thorough investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
Lt. Adewumi emphasized the Army’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law, insisting that misconduct by any personnel is treated seriously and will not be condoned.
“The Nigerian Army assures the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made public to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice,” he added.
The Army urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation or actions that could disturb public order, while reaffirming its dedication to integrity, accountability, and national service.
The alleged killing of Alkasim Ibrahim has sparked public concern, with calls growing for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.
