The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious serial killer and gang leader, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough in the state’s war against violent crime.
The 44-year-old suspect, reportedly the most wanted hired assassin in recent Lagos history, was apprehended in a coordinated tactical operation tagged “Silence, Speed and Surprise” carried out by the Command’s Tactical Squad at his hideout in the Agbado area of neighbouring Ogun State.
The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, describing Akinwande as the head of a deadly syndicate responsible for a series of high-profile killings across Mushin and other parts of Lagos.
“Akinwande’s criminal activities have left trauma, horror, agony, and pain in the families of his victims,” Hundeyin said, noting that his arrest marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes in the state.
According to the statement, a cache of weapons and other incriminating items were recovered from the suspect’s hideout.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to lead a specially assembled team of detectives to expand the investigation and apprehend all accomplices connected to Akinwande’s criminal network.
The Command assured the public of its continued commitment to rooting out violent elements threatening peace and security in Lagos State.
