In a swift response to a confirmed meningitis outbreak, the Adamawa State government has launched a targeted vaccination campaign at the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) in Muva, Mubi North local government council.
The campaign, which kicked off on Saturday, will run from 24th to 29th May 2025. It aims to curb the spread of the disease and safeguard residents, especially those in high-risk groups within affected communities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Health represented by Pharm. Mathias Zirra Bubanani, Permanent Secretary at the State Ministry of Health and Human Services stressed the importance of community cooperation in achieving full coverage.
He was joined by the Vice Chairperson of Mubi North, Mrs. Veronica John Elias, and the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA), Dr. Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, who echoed calls for collective action.
Community engagement was a major focus, with leaders urging parents, youth, traditional authorities, media personnel, and health workers to actively participate and spread awareness.
Representatives from UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) also addressed attendees, reaffirming their support in bolstering the state’s outbreak response and health system resilience.
The launch, as observed by WorldClass247News, drew a large turnout, including directors of the ADSPHCDA, executive secretaries of Mubi North and Mubi South PHC Authorities, local health officials, and traditional rulers such as the District Heads of Mayo-Bani, Lewa, Betso, and Yelwa, as well as village, ward heads, religious leaders, and enthusiastic community members.
The state government urged all residents to ensure no eligible individual is left unvaccinated, emphasizing that collective vigilance is key to defeating the outbreak.
