Supreme Court Affirms Udeh-Okoye as PDP National Secretary Supreme Court has upheld the appointment of SKE Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming that party leadership matters remain internal affairs beyond judicial intervention.
In its ruling, the apex court emphasized that the nomination and ratification of party officials should be handled through the PDP’s internal mechanisms, in accordance with its constitution. This decision validates the party’s stance that Udeh-Okoye was duly selected and confirmed through established procedures.
The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) had previously directed the South East Zonal Executive Committee to nominate a replacement for Senator Samuel Anyanwu following his candidacy in the November 2023 Imo State governorship election.
The South East Zonal Executive Committee subsequently approved and forwarded Udeh-Okoye’s name to the NWC on October 20, 2023.
At its 577th meeting on November 7, 2023, the NWC officially confirmed Udeh-Okoye’s appointment, a decision later endorsed by key party organs, including the Board of Trustees (BoT), the South East Zonal Caucus, and the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The appointment was also formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public.
In a statement issued out by the party, through it National Publicity Secretary. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP lauded the Supreme Court’s ruling, describing it as a victory for democracy and party supremacy. The NWC urged party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the PDP as it moves forward.
