In a significant step toward strengthening Burkina Faso’s agricultural sector, President Ibrahim Traoré handed over a substantial batch of earth-moving equipment to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal, and Fisheries
This initiative aligns with the President’s vision of achieving national food self-sufficiency. The newly delivered machinery will support the National Office of Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) and the National Society for Land Development and Rural Equipment (SONATER).
According to Minister of State Ismaël Sombié, the government allocated 13 billion FCFA in the 2024 budget to procure this equipment.
The delivery, as listed out by him, includes heavy machinery 10 loaders, 10 excavators, 10 levelers, 33 sheep’s foot compactors, 25 bulldozers, 2 tractors, and 10 compactors, transport and support vehicles, which are made up of 18 dump trucks, 6 water tanks, 2 fuel tanks, 2 side trucks, 1 workshop truck, 3 crane trucks, 3 engine racks, 5 concrete dump trucks, and 2 additional dump trucks.
The newly acquired equipment, the minister said, will be deployed to develop hydro-agricultural infrastructure, ensuring access to water and arable land.
This is expected to boost food production under the presidential agricultural production initiative and the agro pastoral offensive 2023-2025.
Minister Sombié emphasized the government’s commitment to swiftly operationalizing the machinery. He assured that efforts are underway to make the most of these resources, following President Traoré’s directive to enhance water mobilization and agricultural expansion.
