The Commander of 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while calling for sustained collaboration with community leaders to effectively address security challenges in Adamawa State.
This was disclosed in a statement released in Yola by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Adebayo Samuel Adewumi, following a three-day operational and familiarization tour conducted by the Brigade Commander across several deployment areas in the state.
The tour, which took place from May 23 to 25, 2025, included visits to key locations under 232 Battalion and 23 Brigade Special Battalion, such as Mubi, Maiha, Song, Garkida, Garaha, Uba, Hong, and Belel.
According to the statement, Brigadier General Agwu conducted on-site evaluations of troop deployments, focusing on the welfare, morale, and operational readiness of the personnel.
While addressing soldiers in Mubi and Maiha, he emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to military standards. Tactical realignments were also implemented to boost the effectiveness of current defensive strategies.
Beyond operational reviews, the Brigade Commander engaged in outreach efforts to strengthen civil-military relations. He paid courtesy visits to traditional leaders, including the Emir of Mubi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Isa Ahmadu; the Emir of Maiha, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru Sanda; the District Head of Sorao; and the District Head of Belel.
“During these engagements, Brigadier General Agwu highlighted the vital role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and stability,” the statement noted. He appealed for continued support and collaboration from the local leadership in confronting security threats across the region.
The traditional rulers commended the Commander for his proactive approach and reaffirmed their support for ongoing military operations. They stressed the need for continued partnership to promote peace, security, and development in their communities.
