Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have neutralized a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a clearance operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the operation was conducted along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road and followed a strategic visit by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, to Bandawa community.
During the visit, Brigadier General Uwa stressed the need for enhanced military presence and proactive security actions in the area. Acting swiftly on this directive, troops launched a fighting patrol that led to a confrontation with armed bandits.
“In a swift and decisive exchange of fire, the soldiers neutralized one bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” Olubodunde stated.
He emphasized that the success of the operation reflects the Brigade’s determination to eradicate criminal activity and restore peace across Taraba State. He also confirmed that patrols have since been intensified in the area to maintain security and boost public confidence.
In a related effort to promote peace, a stakeholders’ meeting was held on May 12, 2025, to address ongoing tensions between residents of Kashimbila in Takum LGA, Taraba State, and Jato Aka in Kwande LGA, Benue State. The conflict had previously resulted in attacks on motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road.
The peace meeting, held at the palace of the Chief of Kashimbila, brought together security personnel, traditional leaders, youth representatives, and community stakeholders. All parties agreed to work towards peaceful coexistence and take steps to ensure the safety of travelers and local residents.
The 6 Brigade has called on citizens to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid in ongoing security and peacekeeping operations across the state.
