The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, is mourning the passing of its Assistant Secretary, Jethro Saaior Yerga, who died in the early hours of Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Jalingo.

Leading a delegation of the Council’s executive members on a condolence visit to Yerga’s family and the Worldview Chapel, the NUJ Taraba Chairman, Comrade Matthew Eliud Jen, described Yerga’s death as a profound loss to the journalism profession in the state.

Jen praised the late Yerga as a hardworking, dedicated, and unassuming journalist, whose contributions to the Union and to journalism in Taraba State would be remembered for years to come.

He recalled Yerga’s pivotal role in the emergence of the Council’s current leadership and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul, while asking God to grant his family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear the loss.

Responding on behalf of the family, Dr. Benard Meer, along with the publisher of Worldview Magazine, Mr. Williams Ayoosu, thanked the NUJ for their show of solidarity during the difficult period.

The family announced that Yerga would be laid to rest on May 8, 2025, and extended an invitation to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to celebrate his life and legacy.

“As we say goodbye to a dear friend and colleague, we pray that his soul rests in peace and that his family finds strength to navigate this difficult time. May his memory continue to be a blessing to us all,” Dr. Meer said.

Tributes, at the time of filing this report, have continued to pour in from across Taraba State.

Justin Tyopuusu, Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Digital Economy, described Yerga as a brother and prayed for his soul to rest in peace. Similarly, Comrade Abdullahi Gambo called Yerga a “rare gem,” mourning his passing.

Until his death, Yerga was the Editor of Worldview Magazine and a contributor to BusinessDay newspaper. He is survived by his wife, siblings, and numerous relations.
