In a major step toward strengthening Taraba State’s healthcare sector, Governor Agbu Kefas has appointed Dr. Danjuma Garba as the new Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Health Service Management Board.
The appointment, announced on Tuesday, is expected to bring transformative changes to healthcare administration in the state. Governor Kefas emphasized that Dr. Garba’s leadership aligns with his administration’s commitment to revamping the healthcare system and improving service delivery.
Staff of the board, speaking to our correspondent, expressed optimism about the appointment. “Dr. Garba has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the health sector, and we are confident that his expertise will enhance hospital management, service delivery, and healthcare access for Taraba residents,” a staff member said.
Dr. Garba previously served as the Executive Director of the Taraba AIDS Control Agency (TACA), where he led successful initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS, raise public awareness, and improve access to treatment across the state. His extensive experience in healthcare policy implementation and management makes him a strong candidate for the role.
As Executive Secretary, Dr. Garba will oversee the administration of public hospitals in Taraba, focusing on improving infrastructure, ensuring adequate medical supplies, addressing staffing challenges, and implementing policies to enhance healthcare services.
Reacting to his appointment, Dr. Garba expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for the trust placed in him and pledged to work tirelessly to improve healthcare delivery.
“I am honored by this appointment and fully aware of the challenges ahead. My focus will be on strengthening hospital management, ensuring efficient service delivery, and working with all stakeholders to provide quality healthcare to the people of Taraba,” he said.
Healthcare professionals and stakeholders in the state have welcomed the appointment, hoping it will bring much-needed reforms. A senior doctor at Jalingo Specialist Hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Dr. Garba’s experience in managing health programs is commendable. We hope that under his leadership, hospitals in the state will receive the necessary support to function optimally.”
Similarly, a community health advocate described the appointment as a step in the right direction. “We need someone with a deep understanding of the challenges in the health sector. Dr. Garba has proven himself in his previous role at TACA, and we believe he will make a positive impact in this new position,” she said.
With high expectations from both healthcare workers and the public, Dr. Garba’s leadership will be closely watched as he embarks on his mission to improve healthcare services in Taraba State.
