Former Sokoto State governor and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
In the letter, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria said the move followed deep reflection and consultations with political associates and supporters.
Tambuwal cited persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements, and widening divisions within the party as key reasons for his departure. According to him, the conflicts within the PDP have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.
The senator, who previously served as governor of Sokoto State and Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve the country in different capacities.
Following his resignation, Tambuwal officially joined the ADC alongside several of his associates and supporters. He said the decision was driven by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and commitment to national development.
Tambuwal also reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigeria and upholding the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.
