The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Taraba State has officially endorsed Governor Agbu Kefas for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced on Thursday during the flag-off ceremony for the payment and pay-rolling of 1,134 local government retirees at the Taraba State Local Government Staff Pension Board in Jalingo.

Speaking, the state chairman of the NUP, Alhaji Mamudu Famlak Yaro, declared the union’s support, citing Governor Kefas’ dedication to improving the welfare of retirees and his transformative governance that has boosted development across various sectors.

“Taraba has been rated third among states demonstrating exceptional commitment to retirees’ welfare,” Alhaji Mamudu said, referencing a recent NUP national meeting in Abuja.

This recognition earned the governor a nomination for the NUP National Award. As senior citizens of Taraba, we declare our total support for Governor Kefas in the 2027 governorship election to appreciate his efforts.”

The chairman also clarified leadership issues within the union, stating that “The era of confusion is over. “

Hon. Abel Peter Diah, Chairman of the Taraba State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, commended Governor Kefas for his commitment to both infrastructure and human development. He praised the retirees for their patience and urged continued support for the administration.

Similarly, Mr. Andrew Dame, Permanent Secretary for the Bureau of Local Government, and Mr. Thomas Daniel Maiyanga, Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Local Government Pension Board, lauded the governor for prioritizing retirees’ welfare. They highlighted that since assuming office, Kefas has approved the pay-rolling of 2,300 retirees across 16 local government areas.

“Within the first two months of his administration, 1,166 retirees were pay-rolled after years of waiting. Today, an additional 1,134 retirees are being pay-rolled, proving that Governor Kefas is truly a pensioners’ friendly leader,” they stated.

Speaking on behalf of the newly pay-rolled retirees, Comrade ElNathan Bila Auta expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas and called on all pensioners in the state to rally support for his re-election bid in 2027.

The endorsement underscores the growing support for Governor Kefas among key stakeholders, highlighting his administration’s focus on governance and welfare.
