The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered an immediate investigation into a prison break at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the minister assured the public that authorities are working swiftly to recapture all escaped inmates.
He emphasized that the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) will leverage its biometric database and advanced technology solutions to track and apprehend the fugitives.
In response to the situation, the minister directed the Acting Controller General of the NCoS, Sylvester Ndidi, to visit the facility and conduct a thorough assessment. A comprehensive audit has also been ordered to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape.
“We are on top of the situation. Our personnel are already on the ground in Kogi, and I have mandated a full audit to uncover the cause of this breach,” the minister stated.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to restore order and prevent future occurrences.
