A Chief Magistrate Court II in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of five men in prison custody over the alleged murder of a man during a violent incident at a party in Mubi South Local Government Area.
The court, presided over by Magistrate M.A. Adamu, on Friday ordered that the suspects Timothy Hassan (25), Iliya Kwada (28), Markus Ezra (38), Joel Michael (32), and Lukman Shuaibu (27) be held in custody pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2025.
The defendants face multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, unlawful possession of weapons, mischief, and culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 60, 218, 69, 318, and 191 of the Adamawa State Penal Code Law (2018, as amended).
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused allegedly stormed a party at Wuro Barka in Mubi South on May 4, 2025, armed with dangerous weapons.
Prosecuting officer, Inspector Hamza Abdullahi, told the court that the group attacked two individuals Bamanga Yakubu and Okacha Adamu with sticks and machetes, and vandalized their motorcycle.
Both victims were seriously injured and taken to the General Hospital in Mubi, where Bamanga Yakubu was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
Inspector Abdullahi added that a number of weapons, including a locally fabricated single-barrel gun, machetes, sticks, and iron rods, were recovered from the suspects.
During the arraignment, the first, third, and fifth defendants pleaded not guilty, while the second and fourth admitted to the charges. The case continues.
