The Adamawa State Police Command has secured the conviction of three suspected members of the notorious “Shilla” gang, who were sentenced to four years imprisonment each without an option of fine.
The three men, Nicholas Kalauni, Usman Mohammed and Abdurrahman Yakubu, all from Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, were convicted by the Chief Magistrate Court II sitting in Yola on Friday
The convicts were arraigned by Inspector Ahmed Abubakar on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, prohibition of illicit drinks and banned substances, and unlawful possession of weapons.
According to the prosecution, the trio are members of the “Shilla” group allegedly responsible for terrorising residents of Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas.
At the arraignment, the First Information Report was read to the defendants, to which they pleaded guilty.
During the trial, the Divisional Crime Officer of Karewa Division, ASP Sale Yahaya, tendered the suspects’ confessional statements and weapons recovered from them as exhibits. The court admitted the items in evidence.
After considering the evidence before it, the court convicted and sentenced each of the three defendants to four years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the judiciary for the swift dispensation of justice.
The police commissioner also reiterated the command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of residents.
