The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has dismissed a suit challenging the motorcycle restriction policy enforced by the Gombe State Police Command as part of its crime-prevention strategy.
The restriction, which took effect on 12 June 2025 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., was introduced in response to rising security concerns and the growing use of motorcycles in criminal activities within the metropolis.
In its ruling, the court affirmed that the policy is lawful and falls within the constitutional powers of the Nigeria Police Force to maintain public safety, enforce law and order, and prevent crime.
The Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Bello Yahaya, welcomed the judgment and thanked residents of Gombe State for their support and cooperation.
The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring peace and security across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, further details of the court’s decision will be released in due course.
