The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested 18 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers along the Benin-Auchi road, recovering 38 locally made guns, pellets, and various charms during the operation.
The Corps Commandant, Commissioner Friday Ibadin (Rtd.), confirmed the arrest in a press statement, stating that the suspects were apprehended during a bush combing exercise near the Army checkpoint at Eguedion Camp.
According to Ibadin, security operatives spotted two armed individuals who attempted to flee but were pursued to a camp where 18 people were eventually arrested.
He disclosed that 17 of the suspects were non-indigenes, while one hailed from Agbede community.
“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements,” Ibadin stated. “Our men will continue to comb the forests and engage with local communities to ensure safety and security.”
The suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbede Police Station for further investigation.
Ibadin also called for stronger collaboration between the ESSC and other security agencies to enhance crime-fighting efforts in the state.
The arrests, as observed by WorldClass247News, come just days after Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, issued a directive to security agencies to intensify efforts in flushing out criminals and securing farmlands and forests for residents.
