The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to delivering high-quality and durable road infrastructure across the state, assuring residents of timely completion of ongoing projects.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Monitoring and Implementation, Phoebe Williams-Bello, gave the assurance during a three-day inspection tour of road projects in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts.

Addressing journalists in Edo Central, Williams-Bello expressed satisfaction with the pace and standard of work observed, while urging contractors to sustain their momentum. She also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for prioritising infrastructure development and ensuring prompt payments to contractors, a move she said has boosted efficiency on project sites.

“As you can see, we have covered about five kilometres at the binder level, and the wearing course will follow. We want to thank my principal because contractors are not being owed, and that is why you can see them actively on site delivering the work,” she said.

A contractor handling one of the projects, Michel Haddad, expressed confidence in meeting the deadline for the 11.5-kilometre dualisation project linking Ewu, Uromi, Igueben, and Ekpoma.

On the third day of the tour in Edo North, Williams-Bello inspected ongoing palliative works on failed sections of the Auchi–Igarra–Aiyetoro–Unemu–Nekhua–Aiyegunle–Ekpesa–Ibillo–Ekor road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. She reassured residents of the government’s determination to complete critical road projects within set timelines.

“I am very sure that within this timeframe, His Excellency will deliver major roads across Edo North, Central, and South,” she said, urging residents to remain patient as the government addresses road deficiencies.

During an inspection of the Ibillo–Igarra 9.6-kilometre road, the Special Adviser expressed satisfaction with progress but called on contractors to accelerate work.

The contractor in charge, Bajwa Mohd, assured that quality standards would not be compromised, noting that the project is approaching 50 per cent completion.

“We are committed to delivering quality and standard work that will last for years,” he said.

Other projects inspected during the tour include the Irrua–Illeh–Usenu–Ukhun Road, Irrua–Akho–Illeh–Ukhun Road, Ewatto–Udo Road, Idumu Iyasele Road, Ideselu–Ewatto Road, and Ohe–Ozea Road.
