Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on political appointees to take the lead in implementing his administration’s whistleblowing policy by reporting poorly executed projects in their respective areas.
Governor Oborevwori made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of Senator Ighoyota Amori as his Chief Adviser at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
He emphasized that video recordings and other evidence of substandard projects would aid the government in blacklisting erring contractors and ensuring accountability in project execution. This move, he said, would curb the abandonment of projects and enforce adherence to contractual agreements.
“Last week, during an interactive session with senior public and civil servants, I announced my intention to open a hotline for residents to report cases of substandard projects directly to my office. This initiative will help ensure that government funds are properly utilized and that citizens get full value for money spent on projects.” Oborevwori stated.
The Governor stressed that political appointees must be proactive in monitoring projects within their communities and advising the government accordingly.
He reiterated that governance requires teamwork, urging all stakeholders to work together to achieve the state’s developmental goals.
Oborevwori highlighted his administration’s achievements over the past 19 months, noting that the progress made had gained national and international recognition.
He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the momentum through fiscal discipline, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and support for small and medium enterprises.
“We are determined to keep our expenditure within revenue limits and ensure judicious allocation of resources. This will create the right conditions for economic prosperity and sustainable development,” he said.
The Governor reminded all political appointees of their responsibility to uphold the administration’s core values, including transparency, accountability, and social responsibility.
He urged them to maintain close contact with their wards and local government councils to communicate government policies and gather feedback from the people.
“We are committed to bringing the dividends of democracy to the grassroots, and all appointees must actively contribute to this mission. Performance will be closely monitored to assess effectiveness,” he warned.
