A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, triggering an emergency rescue operation as authorities race to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred hours after officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly sealed the building.
Men of the FCT Fire Service have been deployed to the scene and are conducting rescue operations. Three ambulances have also been stationed at the location to provide emergency medical assistance to possible victims.
The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call concerning the building collapse last night and immediately mobilised its personnel to the scene.
According to the command, a police response team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and the Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, promptly responded to the emergency.
Rescue personnel are continuing their search around the collapsed structure as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ascertain the extent of casualties, if any.
The collapse has raised fresh concerns over compliance with building regulations and enforcement of safety standards within the Federal Capital Territory.
