Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, when the troops, who were conducting a routine patrol along the axis, encountered the suspected terrorists.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the troops responded decisively, forcing the terrorists to retreat from the area.
He said reinforcement was subsequently deployed, enabling the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct further exploitation of the surrounding areas.
The operation also led to the discovery and dismantling of several makeshift camps believed to have served as temporary staging and hideout locations for the terrorists.
Items recovered from the camps included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs.
The military said no casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage.
Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission, the statement said.
The military described the operation as a demonstration of the resolve of Operation HADIN KAI troops to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the North-East.
It said the security situation in the area remained calm but unpredictable, with troops continuing aggressive patrols and coordinated security operations.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
It stressed that timely and credible information from the public remained critical to efforts to detect, disrupt and neutralise terrorist activities in the region.
