The family of former Kaduna State Governor and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has demanded a public retraction of an allegation by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), linking the former governor to killings in Southern Kaduna.
The family, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, said it was concerned by comments allegedly made by Musa during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026.
According to the statement, the Defence Minister alleged that El-Rufai actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor of Kaduna State.
The family described the allegation as grave and noted that no evidence was presented during the programme to substantiate the claim.
It said while Musa was entitled to express his personal opinions, the former governor’s family also had the right to demand credible evidence to support such a serious allegation.
“In the absence of such evidence, we call on him to publicly retract the allegation through the same medium on which it was made,” the family said.
The family consequently gave the Defence Minister seven days from the date of the statement to either provide evidence supporting the allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology.
It warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would compel the family to pursue what it described as “all appropriate legal remedies available under the law” over the allegation.
