The Federal Government and the Borno State Government have intensified efforts to secure the safe rescue of 44 schoolchildren abducted from Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, disclosed this on Friday when he met with the parents of the abducted pupils at the Government House in Maiduguri.

The meeting was held at the request of the parents, who have repeatedly appealed to the authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of their children.

Zulum expressed sympathy with the affected families and assured them that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was personally committed to ensuring the safe return of the children.

According to the governor, the President had directed security agencies to work towards rescuing the pupils, while the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Borno State Government were also deploying all necessary measures to secure their release.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I once again extend my sympathies over what happened at Mussa Central Primary School on the 15th of May 2026 that led to the abduction of about 44 primary school pupils,” Zulum said.

He added, “On behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I want to sympathise with you. I want to assure you that Mr President has since directed security agencies to ensure the rescue of our children, and I believe they are working to ensure their rescue.”

The governor assured the parents that the authorities would continue to pursue all necessary measures to secure the safe return of the children to their families.

The pupils were abducted from Mussa Central Primary School on May 15, 2026, an incident that has continued to generate concern among residents, parents and other stakeholders, with affected families mounting pressure on the authorities to intensify rescue efforts.
