The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with international law enforcement partners, has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel allegedly using Nigeria as a transit hub for the movement of illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

The operation led to the arrest of Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” whom the NDLEA identified as the Nigerian arrowhead of the cartel, alongside other suspects in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The NDLEA also recovered 184.50 kilogrammes of cocaine, which the agency said was concealed in a consignment being processed through a courier logistics company in Lagos and destined for the United Kingdom.

Addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), described the operation as one of the agency’s most significant recent narcotics investigations.

Marwa said the seized cocaine had an estimated street value of about N39 billion within the cartel’s international distribution network.

According to him, the investigation began after NDLEA operatives intercepted the cocaine consignment and subsequently constituted a Special Investigation Team to trace the shipment from the courier level to the masterminds behind the operation.

Working with the management of the courier company involved, investigators reportedly uncovered a network of intermediary companies and individuals allegedly used by the cartel to process and export the consignments.

One of the suspects arrested was Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics firm.

Marwa said investigations established that Kehinde had a sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator and allegedly packaged and processed consignments for the syndicate before routing them to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia.

The NDLEA chairman identified the second major suspect as Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, whom investigators allegedly linked directly to the international drug trafficking network.

According to Marwa, the suspect presented himself publicly as a businessman and social media influencer dealing in gold, jewellery and luxury goods, while allegedly using the glamorous image to conceal his involvement in the cocaine trade.

The agency said the cartel’s trafficking route stretched from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

Marwa disclosed that KC Luxury was arrested on the night of August 13, 2026, at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to leave Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.

He said the suspect was found with €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, as well as expensive jewellery.

A subsequent search of his luxury apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, also led to the recovery of exotic vehicles, according to the NDLEA.

Marwa said the investigation further revealed that the cartel allegedly used false identities to conceal the actual consignors of its drug shipments and relied on financial facilitators to move large sums of money on its behalf.

He added that the syndicate maintained active criminal links in the United Kingdom, with some members reportedly arrested by British authorities in connection with the same investigation.

The NDLEA boss said the latest operation was part of a broader crackdown on transnational drug trafficking organisations operating across Nigeria and international borders.

He recalled the recent dismantling of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi drug cartel, which allegedly laundered millions of dollars through dark-web marketplaces, as well as the takedown of two Nigerian-Mexican

methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine laboratories in forests in Ogun and Oyo states.

Marwa said the latest operation demonstrated that drug traffickers could no longer rely on luxury lifestyles, private residences or courier companies to evade law enforcement.

He noted that trafficking organisations had increasingly shifted from seaports and airports to courier and logistics companies, which they allegedly considered less monitored.

According to him, the interception of the cocaine consignment and subsequent arrest of the alleged cartel leader showed the NDLEA’s growing capacity to track drug networks from their operational bases to their financiers and international collaborators.

“There is no alternative route into or out of Nigeria for illicit drugs that this Agency cannot police,” Marwa said.

He described the operation as a significant example of international law enforcement cooperation, particularly following the near-simultaneous arrests of suspects in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Marwa commended the agency’s international partners and members of the Special Investigation Team, coordinated by the Director of Operations and General Investigation, for what he described as their diligence and professionalism in dismantling the syndicate.

He warned individuals who use wealth, luxury brands and social media influence to conceal drug trafficking activities that the NDLEA would continue to track them.

“It does not matter how well-connected, how wealthy, or how far you attempt to run. As this case demonstrates, we will track you to the departure gate if we must,” he said.

The NDLEA chairman assured Nigerians that the agency would sustain its efforts to prevent Nigeria from being used as a transit route for international narcotics trafficking while protecting young people and communities from the devastating consequences of illicit drugs.
