The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced plans to resume electricity distribution and other operations in Biu local government area of Borno state following the resolution of issues that forced the company to suspend its services after an attack on its office.

The announcement, contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the company’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, marks the end of weeks of uncertainty for residents and businesses affected by the disruption in electricity services.

YEDC recalled that on May 4, 2026, hoodlums invaded its office in Biu, vandalising the facility, destroying valuable property and carting away company assets. The attack prompted the company to withdraw its operations from the area, citing concerns over the safety of its personnel and the security of its infrastructure.

The company expressed appreciation to the Borno State Government for its intervention in resolving the crisis, particularly commending governor Babagana Umara Zulum for facilitating dialogue through the Ministry of Power and Energy. According to the statement, the governor’s intervention was instrumental in achieving a peaceful resolution that paved the way for the restoration of services.

YEDC also acknowledged the efforts of the Biu Local Government Authority, the Biu Elders Forum and other prominent sons and daughters of the community, whose constructive engagement contributed significantly to resolving the dispute.

While condemning the attack on its personnel and facilities, the electricity distribution company warned that acts of violence and vandalism are counterproductive, noting that they ultimately undermine electricity service delivery and negatively affect consumers.

The company therefore urged customers to make use of its established complaint resolution and customer engagement platforms to address service-related concerns rather than resorting to violence or the destruction of public infrastructure.

With the issues now resolved, YEDC said preparations are underway to resume operations in Biu shortly, reaffirming its commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient electricity services to customers across its franchise area.

The resumption of operations is expected to bring relief to residents and businesses in Biu, many of whom have endured disruptions in electricity services since the attack on the company’s facilities.
