The Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by governor Umar A. Namadi, has approved a series of key resolutions aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability, healthcare delivery, and energy infrastructure across the state.

At its first meeting held on Monday, the Council endorsed the state’s participation in the Green Nigeria Challenge – Jigawa State Edition, a nationwide initiative focused on afforestation, combating desertification, and promoting environmental conservation.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is expected to collaborate with communities, civil society groups, and development partners to implement the programme, which officials say will reinforce climate resilience and restore degraded lands.

In the health sector, the Council approved additional works on the ongoing Cryogenic Oxygen Plant project in Dutse. The expansion includes the supply of digital oxygen and nitrogen cylinders, as well as electric vehicles to enhance distribution.

The additional components will cost ₦1.22 billion, bringing the total project sum to N3.43 billion. Authorities say the project is critical to improving emergency response capacity and ensuring a steady supply of medical oxygen to hospitals statewide.

The Council also approved the disbursement of N362.8 million under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) as Direct Facility Financing for 281 primary healthcare centres across the state’s 27 local government areas.

The funding, covering July to December 2025, is intended to boost access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots.

In a related move, N56.67 million was approved for the payment of allowances to frontline health workers, including midwives, community health agents, and engagement focal persons, for the same six-month period. An additional ₦57.44 million was earmarked for operational costs at the state level.

On energy infrastructure, the Council sanctioned a review of the cost and scope of solar mini-grid projects serving key government facilities, including the State Secretariat, Judiciary Complex, and House of Assembly. The revised budget increases from ₦6.08 billion to N7.46 billion, reflecting expanded capacity to 3MWp with 4.5MWh battery storage. The upgrade is expected to improve power reliability, enhance productivity, and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.

The resolutions were announced in a statement signed by Sagir Musa Ahmed, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, who noted that the decisions align with the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and improved public service delivery.
