The Chairmanship Candidate of Gashaka Local Government Area (LGA) in Taraba State for the November 8 local government elections, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to seek re-election, citing the confidence reposed in him by the state leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the people of Gashaka.

Umar Yusuf, who currently serves as the Executive Chairman of Gashaka LGA, told journalists at his residence in Jalingo over the weekend that his decision to re-contest was informed by the support and trust of Governor Agbu Kefas, PDP State Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, and residents of the local government.

According to him, the party leadership believes in his capacity to further contribute to the development of the area if re-elected.

“Basically, Gashaka is for PDP. This is because their votes have always gone to PDP, and the good work of our Governor and his concern for the people have convinced them to support my re-election,” Yusuf stated.

He added that receiving the party’s flag to contest again is a clear indication of the trust placed in him.

“Being given the ticket to re-contest shows that Governor Agbu Kefas, the PDP Chairman, and my people have confidence in me,” he said.

The council boss assured that Gashaka would deliver 100 percent of its votes to the PDP in the forthcoming local government election and in future polls.

Highlighting some of his achievements during his tenure, Yusuf said his administration prioritized unity and development across the local government.

“The Governor provided us with funds to work, and I tasked my councillors to engage with their communities to identify their needs. We used the funds judiciously to touch the lives of our people, especially in supporting their businesses,” he explained.

On security, he commended Governor Kefas for collaborating with security agencies and traditional rulers to ensure peace and safety in the area.

“We made sure the good people of Gashaka are secured and can sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said.

Yusuf also pointed to strides in education, noting that the council paid for JAMB registration for candidates in support of the Governor’s free education initiative.

He further revealed that the council has intensified efforts in sensitizing residents on the ongoing voter registration exercise to ensure maximum participation in the elections.
